Reserve Firefighter Program

The City of Manteca employs Reserve Firefighters to augment career fire personnel during major emergencies that require extra resources. The Reserve Firefighter program has been successful in the past in preparing members to be competitive for full-time positions, both in the City of Manteca and other organizations. Reserve Firefighters must meet the following requirements:

• 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or GED
• Reside within 20 air miles of the City of Manteca
• Possession of a Firefighter 1 Certificate or Academy Completion Certificate.
• Be able to respond to at least 25% of Emergency Callbacks in a calendar year.
• Be able to attend training on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month.
• Be able to complete a minimum of 12 hours of paid ride time each month.
• Obtain valid E.M.T. certification within the first year of employment.

Fire Explorer Program

Are you interested in becoming a Firefighter?

The Manteca Fire Department Fire Explorer Post is a youth organization sponsored by the Manteca Fire Department. This program is an introduction to, and opportunity for young adults to become familiar with the field of Fire/Rescue.

The Fire Department Explorer program has the following membership requirements:

• 16-20 years of age
• Submit completed Explorer application form
• Pay the Post annual registration fee of $95.00. This covers Explorer registration, gear and overhead for the program.
• Appointment to the program is based upon available vacancies only.

SAFE (Seniors Assisting Fire Effort)

The SAFE program is designed to provide citizen advocates with a mechanism to support their local governments through a donation of time and talent. SAFE focuses on unique areas of non-operational support that are critical to the Manteca Fire Department's mission. SAFE is not a Volunteer Firefighter program. Instead, it is a variety of important and creative projects in which almost anyone can actively participate. Possible volunteer activities include accounting, clerical support, construction, engineering, fundraising, mechanical repairs, public affairs, grant writing, dispatch duties, computer support, building maintenance and public safety education.

SAFE creates the connection between the fire department and the community, providing a vehicle for citizens to find out more about city government and emergency services in Manteca. There are many necessary tasks that can be performed by citizens from our community in the fire service every day. The list is endless, bound only by your imagination. Community Emergency Response Team

Are you ready? In the event of an emergency are you prepared to not only take care of yourself and significant others but help your neighbors and community? If not, or even if you think you are but would like to hone your skills, consider becoming a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) program that helps educate citizens about hazards they may face and trains them in lifesaving skills so that they are better prepared to respond to emergency situations in their communities.

The City's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) assists the Fire Department and other emergency services in responding to the needs of the community in the event of a major disaster. The CERT program is designed to get Manteca residents working together with City staff and the Fire Department to help themselves, their neighbors, and the community in the event of a disaster such as a major earthquake, flood, or fire. All participants become trained in basic disaster preparedness, light search and rescue, disaster medicine, and firefighting. This training is provided at no cost to Manteca residents and could save your life or the life of your loved ones.
