The shelter will hold onto a stray animal for a minimum of 72 hours (i.e. not counting the days that we are closed) for a possible owner to claim his/her lost pet. However, an animal may be euthanized immediately if the animal is suffering from an illness or injury. After the holding period has ended, an animal may be evaluated and placed for adoption.
Losing your pet is stressful—both for you and your pet. Please include Animal Services in your search for your pet. It is always recommended that you walk through the kennels in the facility to assure your pet is not here. If your dog is licensed or micro chipped; we will attempt to contact you so you can be reunited with your pet. It is vitally important any phone numbers connected to your pet’s license or microchip are on file and up to date.
Other Things You Can Do to Find Your Pet
- Go to 24hourpetconnect.com and search by zip code and lost my Pet. Animals at the shelter who have been entered into our database will be available for viewing.
- Ask your neighbors, post on social media, ask mail carrier, or any other person in the neighborhood if they’ve seen your pet
- Place an ad in the local newspaper and offer a reward if found
- Check your local newspaper in the “found” section
- Check Craigslist or other websites where your pet may be listed as “found”
Please be aware there may be a fee associated with picking up your pet from Animal Services as the shelter provides vaccinations, food, water and shelter to all animals brought in. Any owner reclaiming an impounded animal shall, before the animal will be released, pay impoundment and boarding fees.
